Police Restore Calm After Reprisal Attack in Kogi Community

The Kogi State Police Command has restored calm in Abugi and neighbouring communities following a reprisal attack that left five people dead.

The violence reportedly occurred after a herder was killed in the community on Thursday, triggering a reprisal attack that resulted in the deaths of five people.

The police said the Area Command in Lokoja, alongside security agencies and community stakeholders, had engaged traditional rulers, community leaders and other relevant parties to promote reconciliation and restore peaceful coexistence.

The Command has also commenced a full-scale investigation through the State Criminal Investigation Department, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the killings.

Police personnel have been strategically deployed across the affected communities to prevent further violence and protect residents and property.

The Command said normalcy had returned to Abugi and its environs, although security monitoring would continue to ensure the peace is sustained.

The police urged residents to remain law-abiding and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
