The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, over the alleged ritual desecration of the Holy Qur’an in Zuru Local Government Area of the state.

Musa, a resident of Rafin Mose Village, was arrested in connection with allegations including criminal conspiracy, abuse of religious books, use of spells and hypnosis, and inciting disturbance.

According to the police, the incident occurred on August 9, 2026, at about 7pm in the Zango area of Zuru.

The command said preliminary investigations indicated that Musa allegedly acted alongside two other suspects, Rabi’u Tela, the husband of Zarau Hassan, and Hamza Zango, who are currently at large.

Police alleged that the suspects dug a pit inside Hassan’s room and buried a copy of the Qur’an alongside other items. The command said the alleged act was intended to make Hassan “more submissive to her husband” and had the potential to cause a breach of peace among residents.

The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the two fleeing suspects, while Musa remained in custody pending the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, condemned the alleged act and warned against actions capable of threatening religious harmony and public order.
