The family of detained Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) official, Adeniyi Adeyemi, has accused the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the PFIPC scandal of attempting to question him in custody without the presence of his legal representatives, describing the move as a violation of his constitutional rights.

In a statement, the family alleged that lawmakers sought to conduct a closed-door session with Adeyemi while he remained in custody, despite his lawyers not being granted access. They argued that any attempt to obtain statements from him without legal representation would undermine the principles of fair hearing and due process.

The family maintained that Adeyemi has consistently expressed willingness to cooperate with investigators and appear before the committee, provided his legal rights are fully respected. They insisted he should be allowed to testify openly with his lawyers present, rather than being questioned under conditions they described as unfair.

According to the statement, any report or recommendation arising from proceedings conducted without Adeyemi's participation or legal representation would be incomplete and open to legal challenge. The family urged the committee to uphold transparency, constitutional safeguards throughout its investigation.

The House Committee is investigating the circumstances surrounding the controversial PFIPC and its inclusion in the 2026 Appropriation Act. Adeyemi remains in custody while investigations and related legal proceedings continue.
