More than 500 agricultural stakeholders gathered in Ibadan for the Africa Agribusiness Summit 2026, organised by Farmdev Consult to promote a more profitable, sustainable and structured approach to agriculture in Africa.

The event, held at the Zonta Multipurpose Hall in Jericho, Ibadan, brought together industry leaders, agripreneurs, policymakers, farmers, students and NYSC Agro-Allied CDS members.

The summit was themed “Transforming Africa’s Agricultural Landscape: Driving Profitability, Sustainability, and Food Security.” It focused on encouraging stakeholders to move beyond traditional subsistence farming towards structured and commercially viable agribusinesses.

In his opening address, the Convener and Managing Director of Farmdev Consult, Samuel Oluwatobi, stressed the importance of agriculture to economic development and food security.

He noted that food remains a basic necessity regardless of economic conditions, making agriculture and agribusiness critical areas for investment and sustainable development.

Speaking on behalf of the Oyo State Government, the Executive Adviser to the Governor on Planning, Budgeting and Economic Matters, Alhaji Gaffar Bello, urged agricultural entrepreneurs to embrace professional branding, standardisation and value addition.

He said agricultural products should be processed and packaged to meet modern market standards rather than being sold solely through traditional methods.

The summit also provided a platform for participants to discuss opportunities for improving agricultural productivity, strengthening food security and creating profitable businesses across Africa.

Farmdev Consult said the gathering was part of its broader effort to promote a shift in the perception of agriculture from subsistence activity to a structured, profitable and sustainable business sector.
