Osun Poll: Soldiers Trying to Stop Me From Entering State — Davido
Davido has alleged that soldiers were trying to prevent him from entering Osun during Saturday's governorship election, while authorities had already imposed a statewide movement restriction from midnight until 6pm as part of election security measures.
Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers were attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State on Saturday as residents cast their ballots in the state governorship election.
Davido made the allegation in a post on his verified X account early Saturday, saying he had been informed that soldiers were trying to stop him from entering the state. He argued that every Nigerian has the right to freedom of movement.
The allegation came hours after the Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction of movement across Osun State, effective from midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6pm on Saturday, August 15, as part of security arrangements for the election.
Davido, who is a nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, has actively campaigned for his uncle, who is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform.
The singer's claim generated reactions online, with some users questioning whether the reported incident was a targeted restriction, while others pointed to the broader movement restrictions already announced for the election.
Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad dismissed Davido's complaint as “dramatic”, arguing that the restriction applied generally to movement across Osun and was a standard security measure during elections.
The Osun election is being contested by Adeleke, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji and candidates from other political parties.
