Osun Poll, IG Deploys DIG to Coordinate Security Operations

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed a Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Ishyaku Mohammed, to Osun State to coordinate security operations for Saturday’s governorship election.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the deployment was part of measures to ensure a peaceful, secure and credible electoral process across the state.

The deployment adds to the earlier mobilisation of about 15,000 police operatives and a Commissioner of Police assigned to oversee security arrangements for the election.

The police said the DIG would coordinate operational activities and work with other senior officers deployed to the state to ensure adequate security before, during and after the poll.

The Force urged political actors, voters and other stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the electoral process.

The police leadership also reiterated its commitment to protecting voters, electoral officials and election materials while maintaining law and order across the state.

The Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026, with security agencies increasing preparations amid concerns over possible election-related violence.
