A political pressure group, G-100, has urged opposition parties in Nigeria to adopt the strategy that helped Governor Ademola Adeleke secure re-election in Osun State as a model for the 2027 general elections.

The group said Adeleke’s victory demonstrated that opposition parties could defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if they were willing to put aside individual ambitions and unite around a common political objective.

In a statement issued on Sunday by Salihu Lukman, the G-100 congratulated Adeleke and commended Osun voters for what it described as their determination and courage during the election.

The group argued that the major weakness of Nigeria’s opposition ahead of 2027 was fragmentation rather than a lack of popular support.

According to the G-100, the Osun election provided a practical example of what could happen when opposition politicians consolidate their structures, supporters and political strength behind a single candidate.

It also praised opposition politicians who set aside their individual ambitions to support Adeleke, describing their decision as a demonstration of political maturity, courage and willingness to compromise.

The group urged opposition leaders seeking to challenge the APC in 2027 to ask themselves what political arrangement would best serve Nigerians rather than focusing solely on individual ambitions.

It said the lesson from Osun was that cooperation among opposition forces could create a viable alternative to the ruling party if political leaders were prepared to compromise.

“Osun has shown the pathway. The task now is to take that spirit of cooperation to the national stage,” the group said.

The call follows INEC’s declaration of Adeleke as winner of the August 15 governorship election. Adeleke, who contested on the Accord Party platform, defeated APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, winning 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas.
