The Accord Party in Osun State has accused the All Progressives Congress of harbouring suspected hackers allegedly brought into the state to compromise the Independent National Electoral Commission's digital system ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The allegation was contained in a statement by the Accord State Chairman, Victor Akande, who called on security agencies to investigate the alleged operation, arrest those involved.

The party claimed the suspected hackers were brought from Lagos, Abuja, had established an operational centre at a hotel in Osogbo, where they planned to interfere with INEC's electronic system, manipulate election results.

Accord also urged INEC to strengthen the security of its digital infrastructure, warning that any attempt to compromise the electronic transmission of results could undermine the credibility of the election.

However, the Osun APC dismissed the allegation as false, baseless, describing it as an attempt to create a negative impression of the party ahead of the election.

The APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, said the party was confident of winning the election without electoral fraud, urging Accord to report any suspected hackers to the police rather than make unsubstantiated claims.

The August 15 election is shaping up as a contest between Accord, which is fielding incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, the APC, whose candidate is Bola Oyebamiji.
