Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared that he would resign from the All Progressives Congress (APC) if President Bola Tinubu ever disrespects the Catholic Church or its leadership, insisting that his loyalty to the Church remains unwavering.

Kalu, a practising Catholic, said he does not believe the President has insulted the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria or the Church, maintaining that Tinubu has continued to show respect for religious leaders and the opposition. He stressed that any contrary interpretation of the President's remarks was misplaced.

The senator stated that he would not hesitate to leave the ruling party if the President deliberately undermined the Catholic Church, noting that his faith takes precedence over partisan politics. He, however, expressed confidence that such a situation would not arise because of Tinubu's longstanding relationship with religious institutions.

Kalu also described the Catholic bishops as respected national voices whose interventions on governance and national issues are intended to promote peace, justice, good governance. He urged political leaders to remain open to constructive criticism from religious bodies in the interest of national development.

The former governor reaffirmed his support for President Tinubu's administration while calling for greater unity among political, religious leaders. He said sustained dialogue and mutual respect remain essential to strengthening Nigeria's democracy and fostering national cohesion.
