Olawepo-Hashim Pledges Naira Revival to ₦525/$

Accord Party chieftain and former presidential candidate, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has pledged to restore the naira to between ₦500 and ₦525 against the United States dollar if elected president in 2027, blaming the current administration for worsening economic hardship in the country.

He made the pledge on Thursday at a political gathering in Dawaki, Abuja, where supporters gathered to reaffirm support for his presidential ambition and receive details of his economic agenda ahead of the 2027 elections.

Hashim said stabilising the exchange rate would be a central pillar of his economic blueprint, insisting that the present administration has failed to manage inflation, unemployment, and declining purchasing power.

“I will restore the value of the naira to between ₦500 and ₦525 to one United States dollar,” he declared.

He also accused the government of deepening economic hardship through poor policy implementation, arguing that rising inflation has eroded the living standards of ordinary Nigerians.

The former presidential candidate further alleged political interference in opposition parties, claiming that certain elements within government were attempting to weaken parties such as the Accord Party, ADC, and PDP ahead of the next general elections.

He warned against what he described as efforts to suppress democratic competition, insisting that no administration can permanently override the will of the people.

Hashim also raised concerns about internal tensions within his party, saying recent developments had exposed issues around leadership transparency and party management.

He maintained that his political ambition is driven by the need to improve living standards, stressing that many Nigerian households are struggling with basic costs such as education, food, and healthcare.

He called for increased investment in job creation, youth empowerment, and economic expansion as key strategies for national stability and growth.

Urging his supporters to remain peaceful and engaged, he encouraged continued participation in the democratic process despite political challenges and uncertainty ahead of 2027.
