NYSC Denies Mandating NANS Levy for National Service Mobilization

The National Youth Service Corps has distanced itself from a proposed ₦200 annual levy introduced by the National Association of Nigerian Students, clarifying that payment of the fee is not a prerequisite for prospective graduates seeking mobilization into the scheme.

The management of the scheme issued a statement addressing reports that student union leadership intended to link the collection of association dues directly to the national service registration process.

The agency emphasized that it has not entered into any discussions, formal agreements, or Memorandum of Understanding with the student association regarding the collection of levies from prospective corps members.

According to the management, the mobilization process operates strictly through statutory channels established between the scheme's leadership and the heads of accredited corps-producing institutions. These academic institutions remain the sole authorized entities responsible for submitting official graduate data for national service.

The agency further reiterated that eligibility for service is governed independently by law and remains completely unattached to the administrative, financial, or operational activities of any external student organization. Graduates and tertiary institutions were advised to disregard claims suggesting that association dues receipts are required for orientation camp deployment.
