The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed 10,000 personnel from 10 state commands to reinforce security ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.

The deployment was ordered by the NSCDC Commandant-General, Prof. Ahmed Audi, and includes uniformed and undercover personnel from Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Edo, Kogi, Delta and the Federal Capital Territory commands.

The corps said the personnel would complement its existing presence in Osun and provide security for voters, electoral officials, observers, journalists and residents across the state's 30 local government areas.

Specialised units, including intelligence, tactical, female, mining and K9 teams, have also been deployed to support intelligence gathering, crime prevention, crowd control and protection of critical assets.

Senior NSCDC officers, led by the Deputy Commandant-General in charge of Operations, Ayuba Phillip, are expected to relocate to Osun to coordinate the corps' election security operations.

Audi directed personnel to remain professional, neutral and respectful of citizens' rights throughout the election. He also warned political thugs and others planning to disrupt the poll that such activities would not be tolerated.

The NSCDC said it would work with the police, military and other security agencies under the inter-agency security framework to ensure a peaceful and credible election.

The deployment comes amid heightened security preparations for the poll, with the Nigeria Police Force having earlier announced the deployment of 15,000 personnel to Osun State.
