NPFL, Afrinvest Partner to Boost Digital Growth, Club Revenue
The NPFL and Afrinvest have deepened their partnership to help Nigerian football clubs improve digital visibility, attract sponsorships and build sustainable revenue sources. League officials say stronger digital platforms, reliable data and effective branding are essential to reducing dependence on government funding and driving the commercial growth of Nigerian football.
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has strengthened its partnership with investment firm Afrinvest to accelerate digital transformation, enhance commercial capacity and create sustainable revenue streams for clubs across the league. The renewed collaboration was reaffirmed during the NPFL–Afrinvest Media and Marketing Workshop held in Enugu, where media officers and marketing executives from all 20 NPFL clubs received training on branding, digital visibility, sponsorship attraction and fan engagement.
Speaking at the workshop, NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owunmi urged clubs to embrace digital transformation, stressing that reliable data has become one of football's most valuable commercial assets after broadcast rights. He noted that the league continues to lose sponsorship opportunities because many clubs lack functional digital platforms and credible performance data demanded by potential investors and corporate partners.
Owunmi called on clubs to improve their websites, generate quality statistics and maintain active online platforms to help the NPFL build a comprehensive central database. He added that stronger digital engagement would increase the league's visibility, attract sponsors and reduce clubs' dependence on government funding. According to him, financially sustainable clubs require vibrant media and marketing departments capable of creating commercially attractive brands.
Afrinvest's Enugu Office Manager, Emmanuel Eleojo, said the firm's collaboration with the NPFL is driven by its "Finance Meets Football" philosophy, which promotes sound financial management as the foundation for successful football institutions. He explained that the partnership seeks to strengthen the business side of Nigerian football by helping clubs build sustainable commercial structures beyond activities on the pitch.
Rangers International General Manager Amobi Ezeaku commended both Afrinvest and the NPFL for championing initiatives aimed at securing the financial future of Nigerian football. He encouraged club media and marketing officers to play a leading role in attracting sponsorships, expanding fan engagement and building stronger club brands capable of generating long-term revenue.
