Nigeria and Burundi have agreed to deepen military cooperation in the fight against terrorism, reaffirming their commitment to stronger defence collaboration, intelligence sharing and joint efforts to address evolving security threats across Africa.

The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting between senior military officials of both countries, where discussions focused on enhancing operational cooperation, capacity building and the exchange of expertise to improve counter-terrorism operations. The leaders stressed the need for African nations to work more closely in tackling insurgency and transnational crimes.

Both sides acknowledged that terrorism and violent extremism continue to pose significant threats to peace, stability and development across the continent. They pledged to strengthen collaboration through regular engagements, military training programmes and information sharing aimed at improving the effectiveness of security operations.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of regional partnerships in addressing cross-border security challenges, with both countries reaffirming their support for collective African efforts to combat terrorism while promoting peace and stability. They expressed confidence that closer military ties would contribute to improved security outcomes.

The renewed partnership reflects Nigeria's broader strategy of expanding defence cooperation with friendly nations to enhance the capabilities of its Armed Forces and strengthen the continent's response to terrorism and other emerging security threats.
