The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikemefuna Uche, has assumed duty, pledging to strengthen security and create a safe and secure environment for residents across the state.
Uche formally took over from CP Nnaghe Obono Itam during a ceremony at the Anambra State Police Command headquarters in Awka.
The new commissioner said his administration would prioritise the protection of lives and property, crime prevention, intelligence-led policing and stronger engagement with communities.
He also pledged to work closely with other security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and residents to address security challenges and maintain peace across the state.
Uche urged officers and personnel under his command to remain professional, disciplined and respectful in the discharge of their duties, while warning against actions capable of undermining public confidence in the police.
He called on residents to support the command by providing credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime and responding effectively to threats.
The commissioner assured Anambra residents that the police would remain committed to protecting communities and ensuring that residents could go about their legitimate activities without fear.
