The Executive Chairman of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Salisu Isah, has commended President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani for the reconstruction of the 122-kilometre Mando-Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road, describing the project as a historic intervention for the area.

The ₦177bn reconstruction project, which was recently flagged off, is expected to improve connectivity between Birnin Gwari and other parts of Northern Nigeria while supporting agriculture, trade and other economic activities.

Isah said the road would also improve security, create employment and facilitate the movement of people and goods in communities that had endured years of insecurity and poor infrastructure.

He particularly praised Tinubu for previously visiting Birnin Gwari and witnessing the poor condition of the road, saying the commencement of the reconstruction demonstrated the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges facing the area.

The chairman also commended Governor Uba Sani for ongoing projects in Birnin Gwari, including the 36-kilometre Bagoma-Gagumi Road, the renovation of Jibril Mai Gwari Memorial Hospital I, and the construction of a modern abattoir and veterinary clinic.

However, Isah appealed for additional interventions, including the completion of the abandoned road linking Gwargwaje-Zaria Road through Farin Ruwa to Saulawa, which was started in 2011.

He also called for the reconnection of communities in Birnin Gwari to the national electricity grid, noting that residents in nine of the local government’s 11 wards remain without grid electricity.

The chairman further requested improvements to educational and healthcare facilities, as well as the establishment of tertiary institutions, a JAMB examination centre and skills acquisition centres to expand opportunities for young people.

He urged residents and road users to cooperate with contractors and protect the road project as a strategic national asset.
