Mexico Backs Infantino, Breaks Ranks With CONCACAF

The Mexican Football Federation has declared its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, breaking ranks with regional football body CONCACAF, which has criticised his leadership following a controversial proposal to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors.

The federation said it remained confident in Infantino's leadership, particularly his efforts to strengthen football institutions globally. It also aligned with the position of South American football governing body CONMEBOL, insisting that any attempt to remove the FIFA president must follow the established electoral process involving all 211 member associations.

The Mexican federation said it would not recognise or approve any process convened outside FIFA's established institutional framework, urging football stakeholders to continue working towards the development of the sport.

Mexico's position puts it at odds with CONCACAF, which described Infantino's abandoned investment proposal as a sign of poor governance, saying it reflected a pattern of leadership decisions that had failed to put football first.

The development comes amid growing divisions among football's governing bodies over Infantino's leadership. While UEFA and several national associations have criticised the FIFA president, the Confederation of African Football has also expressed support for him.
