LAUTECH Resident Doctors Threaten Strike Over Unmet Demands

Resident doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, have threatened to resume their suspended industrial action on August 28, 2026, if the Oyo State Government and hospital management fail to address their outstanding welfare demands.

The Association of Resident Doctors, in a statement signed by its President, Dr Adedapo Mustapha, and General Secretary, Dr John Stephen, said it suspended its previous strike on June 27 in good faith, giving the authorities eight weeks to resolve the issues.

However, the association said several key demands remained unresolved as the deadline approaches.

Among the demands are the full implementation and release of the Medical Residency Training Fund, implementation of the new Professional Allowance table, payment of minimum wage arrears, and urgent recruitment of resident doctors and other essential medical personnel.

The doctors also expressed concern over what they described as a severe shortage of medical staff at the hospital, saying the situation had left the available resident doctors overworked and overstretched.

According to the association, prolonged and frequent call duties have become increasingly common because of the manpower shortage, raising concerns about the potential impact on patient safety and the quality of healthcare delivery.

The doctors appealed to the Oyo State Government and hospital management to intervene before the August 28 deadline, stressing that their preference remained dialogue and a mutually beneficial resolution.

However, they warned that if the outstanding issues were not resolved, they would resume the suspended strike on August 28.
