The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has contained two separate fire outbreaks in Igando and Anifowoshe, Ikeja, with no loss of life recorded in either incident.

The agency disclosed this in a statement signed by its Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, following emergency responses to multiple incidents across Lagos between Sunday evening and the early hours of Monday.

The first fire occurred at about 7:37pm on Sunday at a two-storey building on Shaba Ojo Street, near Omolade Bus Stop, Igando.

LASEMA said its Dolphin Team responded to the distress call and found that the fire had started in a two-bedroom apartment, which was unoccupied at the time. The agency attributed the incident to an electrical surge.

Working with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, responders quickly contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to other apartments in the building. Dampening-down operations were subsequently completed, with the team returning to base at about 8:24pm.

A second fire was reported at about 11:30pm at Abeokuta Street, Anifowoshe, Ikeja.

LASEMA deployed its Tiger Squad to the scene, where responders found one of the two-bedroom flats on the top floor of a storey building engulfed in flames. The agency said the fire originated from an air-conditioning unit following an electrical surge.

Firefighters worked alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to confine the blaze to the affected bedroom before completely extinguishing it.

LASEMA confirmed that no casualty was recorded in either incident and said recovery operations were completed after the fires were brought under control.

The agency reiterated its commitment to disaster risk reduction and prompt emergency response, stressing that its operations were aimed at protecting lives and property across Lagos.
