Suspected Lakurawa terrorists have reportedly killed four soldiers during an attack on Kebbe town in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The attackers, said to number more than 300, reportedly arrived in the town on motorcycles on Friday and engaged soldiers stationed at a military base on the outskirts in a gun battle.

The militants reportedly attacked shops, a hospital and vehicles during the invasion, which began at about 10am.

A security expert in Sokoto, Bashar Altine, confirmed the reported deaths, saying four soldiers were feared killed during the exchange of fire.

However, the casualty figure could not be independently confirmed at the time of the report.

The attack has raised fresh concerns over the activities of Lakurawa militants in parts of north-western Nigeria, particularly along communities close to the country's borders.

Security forces are expected to intensify operations in the area following the attack.
