Kwara Traffic Agency Sacks Personnel, Demotes Two Over Extortion
KWARTMA has dismissed one personnel and demoted two others after an investigation found them culpable of extortion and misconduct involving motorists in Ilorin.
The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority has dismissed one personnel and demoted two others after they were found culpable of extortion and other forms of misconduct involving motorists in Ilorin.
The disciplinary action followed a viral video showing three KWARTMA personnel allegedly engaging in unethical conduct at the Geri Alimi Roundabout during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise on June 27, 2026.
The video prompted public concern and an investigation by the authority. The three personnel were subsequently summoned before the Provost Department for questioning and later appeared before the Senior Staff Management Committee for disciplinary proceedings.
Following the investigation, all three were found culpable and sanctioned in accordance with public service rules, with the sanctions taking effect from July 9, 2026.
The Chief Executive Officer of KWARTMA, Abdullahi Oba, described the dismissal of one of the personnel as a landmark disciplinary action in the history of the authority.
Oba said the agency maintained zero tolerance for extortion, bribery, corruption and other unethical practices, stressing that the disciplinary measures were intended to serve as a deterrent to others.
He urged personnel to uphold professionalism, integrity, discipline and accountability while carrying out their duties.
The CEO also assured members of the public that KWARTMA would continue to operate transparently and responsibly while promoting road safety and orderly traffic management across Kwara State.
