Fayose Criticises EFCC Over Freeze on Osun Government Account

Social commentator Isaac Fayose has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over its decision to freeze an Osun State Government account, describing the action as selective and politically motivated ahead of the state's governorship election.

Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, questioned why the anti-graft agency did not take similar action against the Ekiti State Government during its governorship election despite allegations of vote buying. He argued that the commission should apply the law fairly without favouring or targeting any state.

Speaking in a video shared on his verified Facebook page, Fayose urged the EFCC to explain the rationale behind the account restriction, insisting that anti-corruption efforts should be transparent and free from political considerations. He maintained that public confidence in the commission depends on impartial enforcement of the law.

The criticism comes amid an ongoing dispute between the Osun State Government and the EFCC over the temporary restriction placed on one of the state's accounts as part of an investigation into alleged financial infractions. The commission has maintained that the action falls within its statutory powers and is not politically motivated.

The development has continued to generate public debate, with legal practitioners, political stakeholders expressing differing views on the legality and timing of the account freeze as the state prepares for its forthcoming governorship election.
