Iniesta Urges Barcelona to Sign Osimhen as Lewandowski’s Replacement
Barcelona legend Andrés Iniesta recommends Victor Osimhen as the ideal replacement for departing striker Robert Lewandowski.
Barcelona legend Andrés Iniesta has advised the Spanish giants to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, describing him as the ideal replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
The former midfielder made the recommendation as Barcelona continue their search for a new centre-forward following Lewandowski’s departure to Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire this summer.
With the Polish striker no longer leading the line at Camp Nou, Barcelona have been linked with several attacking options, including Osimhen and Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez.
However, Iniesta believes Osimhen would be the better option for the Catalan club.
“I don’t think Atlético Madrid will let Julián Álvarez go. I would suggest they sign Victor Osimhen,” Iniesta was quoted as saying by Habersarikirmizi.
“He is a fantastic goalscorer and one of the best replacements for Robert Lewandowski.”
Osimhen has continued to attract interest from several top European clubs after maintaining his reputation as one of the continent’s most prolific strikers.
The Super Eagles forward has impressed with his goalscoring ability, physical presence and pace, making him one of the most sought-after attackers in the transfer market.
Barcelona have been searching for a reliable striker capable of leading their attack under manager Hansi Flick as the club prepares for a new era following Lewandowski’s exit.
Despite their admiration for Osimhen, financial constraints have continued to complicate any potential move for the Nigerian, with his transfer valuation and wage demands considered significant obstacles.
The 27-year-old enjoyed successful spells with Napoli and Galatasaray, where he consistently delivered goals in both domestic and European competitions.
His performances have strengthened his status as one of Europe’s elite forwards and have kept him on the radar of clubs in Spain, England and Italy.
Iniesta’s endorsement adds further weight to Osimhen’s growing reputation, with the former Barcelona captain convinced the Nigerian possesses the qualities required to succeed at Camp Nou.
Whether Barcelona will pursue a move remains uncertain, but the club continues to evaluate its attacking options ahead of the new season.
Osimhen’s future is expected to remain one of the major talking points of the summer transfer window as interest in the striker continues to grow across Europe.
