The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has closed its Osun State Election Situation Room following the successful conclusion of the August 15 governorship election.

The commission said the closure marks the end of its dedicated election-monitoring operations for the Osun poll as it begins preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The Osun governorship election was won by incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, who secured 511,067 votes to defeat APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.

INEC had also uploaded 3,695 of the 3,763 polling-unit results to its Result Viewing Portal, representing 98.19 per cent of the results, as the commission completed the results-management process.

The Osun election served as one of the major electoral exercises ahead of the 2027 general elections, with INEC expected to apply lessons from the poll to its preparations for the nationwide exercise.

The commission has continued to emphasise the importance of strengthening electoral processes, technology and logistics ahead of the next general election.
