Fugees Reunion: Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean Hint at New Music After 30 Years

Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean have raised hopes of a possible Fugees reunion album after suggesting that the group could release new music nearly 30 years after its last studio project.

The two musicians spoke ahead of a major concert at Milton Keynes National Bowl in the United Kingdom, where they are scheduled to celebrate the 30th anniversary of *The Score*, the landmark album that established the Fugees as one of the most influential hip-hop groups of the 1990s.

Although neither artist confirmed that a new album is currently being recorded, their comments have generated excitement among fans who have waited almost three decades for a follow-up to the group’s acclaimed second album.

Asked whether fans could expect new Fugees music in the future, Wyclef repeated the question before Hill responded: “Absolutely.” Wyclef then said the group was “in God’s hands” and described himself as being reunited with his long-time bandmate.

The remarks came as the pair reflected on the difficult history of the group and the process of rebuilding their relationship. Hill said the Fugees had gone through “an incredible healing process” as a band and as individual bandmates.

She said the renewed connection had created an opportunity for the musicians to share their energy with audiences again. Wyclef similarly said they were “in an amazing place,” adding that the energy between the artists was important to any future collaboration.

The Fugees, made up of Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, released *The Score* in 1996. The album became a global success, producing hit songs such as “Ready or Not,” “Fu-Gee-La” and “Killing Me Softly.” It earned widespread critical acclaim and helped establish the group as a major force in hip-hop, soul and reggae-influenced music.

Despite their success, the group split in 1997 and has not released another studio album since. Hill and Wyclef later pursued successful solo careers, while the personal and professional tensions surrounding the group made a full reunion difficult.

There have been several attempts to revive the Fugees over the years. The trio reunited for a surprise performance at the 2005 BET Awards and released “Take It Easy” later that year. A planned reunion tour in 2021 was later cancelled, further disappointing fans who had hoped to see the group perform together again

Hill and Wyclef have nevertheless appeared together on several occasions in recent years. They performed at the memorial service for singer Roberta Flack in 2025, while Wyclef also joined Hill on stage during a London performance later that year. Their recent public appearances have gradually revived interest in the possibility of a broader reunion.

Reports in 2024 also suggested that the Fugees were working on a new album, although no official release followed. The latest comments therefore represent the clearest indication from Hill and Wyclef that fresh music remains possible, even if there is still no confirmed recording schedule or release date.

The situation is complicated by the legal troubles facing Pras Michel, the group’s third member. Michel is currently serving a prison sentence in the United States following a federal conviction linked to illegal lobbying and fraud-related offences. His absence raises questions about whether any future project would involve the full original trio or focus primarily on Hill and Wyclef.

Hill and Wyclef’s comments have also added emotional weight to the reunion talk. Their reference to healing suggests that any future project would not simply be a commercial exercise, but could reflect a renewed personal understanding between two artists whose creative partnership helped shape modern hip-hop.

For now, fans will have to wait. No album has been officially announced, no recording sessions have been confirmed and no release date has been provided. But after years of uncertainty, Hill’s one-word answer ,“Absolutely” — has been enough to reignite hopes that the Fugees may finally have another chapter to add to their remarkable story.
