The Kano State Fire Service has rescued 16 people trapped after a residential building collapsed in the Dan Dishe area of Kwanar Yashi, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, with the building, reportedly measuring about 20 by 30 feet, collapsing suddenly. The Fire Service said it received an emergency call at about 4:32am and immediately deployed personnel to the scene.

According to the agency's spokesperson, Saminu Abdullahi, firefighters searched through the debris and successfully rescued all 16 people trapped inside the building.

Three children were among those rescued unconscious. They were identified as five-year-old Affan Yusuf, seven-year-old Hassana Yusuf and nine-month-old Ummulkursum Yusuf.

The Fire Service said the cause of the collapse had not yet been established, adding that an investigation was ongoing to determine what led to the incident.

The agency urged residents to take building safety precautions seriously, particularly during the rainy season, when some structures may become more vulnerable.
