The Federal Government has unveiled the Tinubu Light Initiative, a nationwide renewable energy programme designed to provide affordable, reliable electricity to one million Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), with the aim of reducing production costs, creating jobs, accelerating industrial growth.

The initiative was launched by the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI) during the National Showcase of the NextGen Innovation Challenge 2026 in Abuja. Officials said the programme will deploy clean energy solutions to support small businesses struggling with the high cost of electricity and fuel.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General of NBTI, Dr Kazeem Raji, said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda and is intended to improve the productivity and competitiveness of Nigerian businesses. He noted that access to affordable energy remains critical to the growth of MSMEs, which form the backbone of the country's economy.

According to the government, the programme will promote the adoption of renewable energy technologies while supporting innovation, local manufacturing, entrepreneurship. It is also expected to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lower operational costs for businesses, contribute to Nigeria's clean energy transition.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to sustainable energy for businesses across the country, expressing confidence that the initiative will stimulate economic growth, improve livelihoods, strengthen the MSME sector through increased access to reliable power.
