The Federal Government and Borno State Government have intensified efforts to secure the safe release of 44 schoolchildren abducted from Mussa community in Askira/Uba Local Government Area.
Governor Babagana Zulum disclosed this on Friday when he met with the parents of the abducted pupils in Maiduguri following their appeal for urgent government intervention.
The pupils were abducted from Mussa Central Primary School on May 15 and have now spent 100 days in captivity.
Zulum expressed sympathy to the affected families and assured them that President Bola Tinubu was committed to securing the children's safe return.
He said the President had directed security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the pupils.
According to the governor, the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Borno State Government were working together to achieve the children's safe release.
“On behalf of the government and people of Borno, I once again extend my sympathies over what happened at Mussa Central Primary School,” Zulum said.
The governor assured the parents that the government would continue doing everything possible to bring their children home safely.
The meeting was attended by Senator Ali Ndume, representing Southern Borno Senatorial District, and other senior government officials, including commissioners responsible for education and inter-governmental affairs.
The development comes amid renewed calls from the affected families and communities for stronger action to secure the release of the children.
