Edo Govt Says Davido Free to Visit State
The Edo State Government has denied reports that Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been banned from entering the state. The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kassim Afegbua, said Davido remained welcome and that the government would be willing to work with him if he wished to visit or perform in Edo.
The Edo State Government has dismissed reports that Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been banned from entering the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kassim Afegbua, described the report as false and said the government had not issued any directive restricting the singer from visiting Edo.
Afegbua said the report followed recriminations between the Adeleke family and Governor Monday Okpebholo during the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.
He described the alleged ban as “spiteful behaviour by an impostor and fraud”, stressing that Edo remained open to everyone regardless of political affiliation or beliefs.
The commissioner said the state government would gladly collaborate with Davido if he chose to perform in Edo in the future.
He described the singer as one of Edo State’s illustrious sons because his mother hails from the state.
Afegbua said whatever disagreements occurred during the Osun election were purely political and should not affect Davido’s relationship with Edo.
He also praised the singer’s achievements in the music industry, describing him as one of Nigeria’s global ambassadors and expressing hope that he would win a Grammy Award.
The commissioner urged the public to disregard reports suggesting that the Edo Government had restricted Davido’s movement into the state.
