Edo Gov’s Aide Warns Davido Against Returning to State

The Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, Apostle Kassy Chukwu, has warned Nigerian singer Davido against returning to the state, saying he has been banned from performing there for the remainder of the governor’s tenure.

Chukwu issued the warning in a video shared on Thursday, amid an ongoing dispute between Davido and Governor Okpebholo.

The governor’s aide said the decision followed Davido’s refusal to apologise for remarks he made about Okpebholo after the governor criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle, during the build-up to the August 15 governorship election.

Davido had earlier shared what appeared to be Okpebholo’s WAEC result on his Instagram Story and later defended the post, saying he had no reason to apologise.

Reacting to the development, Chukwu said, “You have been banned from coming to Edo State to perform. We don’t want to see you in Edo again.”

He accused Davido of making disrespectful remarks about the governor and his family, while claiming that some Edo youths were also angry over the singer’s comments.

The aide further alleged that Davido could face a hostile reception if he returned to the state, including at the airport.

Chukwu also criticised Davido’s post concerning the governor’s academic record, describing the document as allegedly manipulated and warning the singer against making similar posts.

The dispute began after Okpebholo criticised Adeleke during the Osun governorship campaign, prompting Davido to respond by sharing the alleged WAEC result.

Davido later said he would not apologise, arguing that he had only drawn attention to the academic record of a governor who had travelled to Osun to campaign against his uncle.
