Dispatch Rider Dies in Lagos Multiple-Vehicle Crash

A dispatch rider has died in a multiple-vehicle crash in Lagos State, while three other people sustained severe injuries.

The crash occurred at Iyana School along the LASU–Isheri Road, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

The Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, said preliminary findings indicated that the accident involved a MACK flatbed truck, a Toyota Sienna and two commercial tricycles.

He said the truck reportedly suffered a catastrophic brake failure, causing the driver to lose control before colliding with the other vehicles.

The collision resulted in severe fractures to three people, while the dispatch rider lost his life.

LASTMA officials responded to the scene to manage traffic and coordinate the recovery operation.

The incident occurred amid growing concerns over the safety of commercial motorcyclists and dispatch riders on Lagos roads, following several fatal crashes involving heavy-duty vehicles.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has repeatedly urged operators of articulated vehicles and other road users to exercise caution and comply strictly with traffic regulations.

The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to working with the police and other emergency response agencies to improve road safety and reduce fatalities across Lagos State.
