CWG 2026 Medal Tally: Tajinder, Samardeep Qualify for Shot Put Final

India strengthened its campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after adding two silver medals on Day Six, while Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh secured places in the men’s shot put final.
Distance runner Gulveer Singh delivered a historic performance by finishing second in the men’s 10,000 metres to become the first Indian male athlete to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the event.
The long-distance specialist produced a determined run to claim the silver medal, marking a significant milestone for Indian athletics at the Games.
India’s second medal of the day came through Harjinder Kaur, who won silver in the women’s 69kg weightlifting event after another impressive display on the platform.
Her performance further boosted India’s medal tally and continued the country’s strong showing in weightlifting, one of its most successful sports at the Commonwealth Games.
In the field events, experienced shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor booked his place in the men’s shot put final after successfully progressing through the qualification round.
Joining him in the final is compatriot Samardeep Singh, ensuring India will have two representatives competing for medals in the event.
The duo will be aiming to secure podium finishes when the final takes place later in the competition.
India’s performances on Day Six reinforced the country’s ambitions of finishing among the leading nations on the Commonwealth Games medals table.
Officials praised the athletes for maintaining consistency across multiple disciplines, particularly in athletics and weightlifting.
With several medal events still to come, India remains optimistic about adding to its tally as the competition enters its closing stages.
