Chile Unveils Online Work Permit Verification for Foreign Workers
Chile’s National Immigration Service has introduced a free digital Work Authorisation Certificate that allows foreign workers and employers to verify work authorisation online. The certificate is available through SERMIG’s immigration platform and includes a QR code for digital verification.
Chile’s National Immigration Service has introduced a free digital Work Authorisation Certificate to help foreign nationals and employers verify whether an individual is authorised to work in the country.
The Habilitación Laboral Certificate is available through the Service’s online immigration platform and features a QR code that allows employers to verify the document digitally.
The new certificate is designed to make work-authorisation checks faster and reduce administrative paperwork for foreign workers and employers.
It provides digital confirmation of a foreign national’s work-authorisation status and can be accessed online at no cost.
However, the National Immigration Service clarified that the certificate does not replace a comprehensive assessment of a foreign worker’s immigration and employment status.
Employers are still required to review relevant immigration documentation and confirm that workers meet all applicable requirements.
Depending on an individual’s circumstances, this may include checking immigration approvals, permits, entry records and residence activation requirements.
The digital certificate is therefore intended to serve as an additional verification tool rather than a replacement for a full assessment of work authorisation.
The initiative is expected to give employers a quicker way to confirm the employment eligibility of foreign workers while providing workers with a convenient digital record of their status.
