C&S Church Divided Over Successor to Late Baba Aladura Alogbo

The Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church (CSMC) Worldwide has become divided over who should succeed the late Baba Aladura, His Grace, Emmanuel Alogbo.

Prophet Alogbo died peacefully at his residence in Lagos State on July 30, 2026, at the age of 93.

However, his death has triggered a leadership dispute within the church, with different factions advancing competing positions on who should serve as Acting Baba Aladura.

According to available information, members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the C&S Church Movement Worldwide opted for an election and subsequently chose Most Senior Special Apostle Gabriel Kassim as the Acting Baba Aladura.

Some members, however, have rejected the decision, insisting that the constitution of the church provides for hierarchical succession.

The opposing members argued that following the transition of Alogbo, the leadership mantle should constitutionally devolve on the next in line of authority, identified as Most Senior Special Apostle Prophet Timothy Iranloye Adewoye.

In a letter dated August 20, 2026, the concerned members stated: “According to the Constitution of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, the office of Baba Aladura is filled by hierarchical succession.

“Upon the transition to glory of the late Baba Aladura, His Grace, Emmanuel Alogbo, the mantle rightly and constitutionally devolves to the next in line of authority, who is Most Senior Special Apostle Prophet Timothy Iranloye Adewoye.

“This provision was put in place to preserve order, unity, and continuity in the Movement founded by our fathers.”

The concerned members consequently rejected the position of the BoT announcing Kassim as Acting Baba Aladura.

They said the announcement did not follow the procedure prescribed by the church’s constitution and therefore declared it “null, void, and of no effect” within the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church.

They further stated that, “in line with due process and in consultation with Districts and Branches Worldwide,” they affirmed and presented Most Senior Apostle Prophet Timothy Iranloye Adewoye as the “authentic and constitutionally recognised Acting Baba Aladura” of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, effective August 20, 2026.

The group called on all districts, branches, model branches and members worldwide to give Adewoye their support, prayers and allegiance.

It also urged members of the church to remain calm, prayerful and law-abiding, stressing that “the Church is bigger than any individual or Board of Trustees.”

The members further warned that any action capable of causing division or confusion was contrary to the spirit of the Cherubim and Seraphim movement.

They appealed to the public, media organisations and government agencies to recognise only communications that would henceforth be issued by the office they described as that of the authentic Acting Baba Aladura.

The development has consequently created competing claims over the leadership of the church following the death of Alogbo, with the interpretation of the church’s constitution at the centre of the dispute.
