Residents of several communities in Niger State have blocked a major highway in protest against repeated abductions and insecurity, leaving travellers stranded for hours.

The protesters reportedly barricaded the Minna-Suleja highway, demanding urgent action from the government and security agencies to protect residents and motorists from attacks.

The protest followed a series of alleged abductions in communities along the route, which residents said had created fear and disrupted economic activities.

Motorists and passengers were reportedly unable to continue their journeys as the protesters occupied parts of the highway, causing significant traffic disruption.

The residents called for increased security presence in vulnerable communities and stronger measures to prevent further attacks and abductions.

The development has renewed concerns over insecurity along major roads in Niger State, particularly routes connecting communities to Minna and other parts of the state.
