Atiku’s Aide Urges DSS to Question Igboho Over Oyo School Abduction Claims
Atiku Abubakar’s aide, Paul Ibe, has urged security agencies to question Sunday Igboho over claims that politicians sponsor kidnappers involved in the abduction of students and teachers.
Media adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to invite Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Igboho for questioning over his claims regarding the abduction of students and teachers in Oyo State.
Ibe made the call in a post on X on Thursday, arguing that security agencies should thoroughly investigate any information that could assist efforts to rescue abducted victims and dismantle criminal networks operating in the country.
His remarks followed comments by Igboho during a meeting with members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), where the activist alleged that certain politicians were sponsoring kidnappers responsible for attacks and abductions in parts of the South-West.
The claims emerged amid national concern over the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, an incident that has intensified calls for stronger security measures and intelligence gathering.
Reacting to the allegations, Ibe said security agencies should immediately engage Igboho if he possesses information capable of aiding ongoing investigations.
“Since Sunday Igboho claims to know those behind the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire, Oyo State, I think that the State Security Service and other security agencies need to invite him to release those names to them,” he stated.
He added that every available option should be explored to ensure the safe release of the abducted students and teachers.
Ibe also raised concerns over what he described as insufficient attention to the reported abduction of more than 50 schoolchildren in Mussa, Borno State, on May 15, 2026.
He questioned why the Federal Government’s response to the Borno incident appeared less visible than actions taken following the Oyo abductions, urging authorities to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable communities across the country.
Earlier, Igboho had insisted that kidnappers operating in the South-West could be dislodged if decisive action was taken against them.
He further alleged that some politicians were providing financial support and ammunition to criminal groups, warning that he could publicly identify those involved if the situation persisted.
The allegations have renewed public debate over the possible links between political interests and criminal activities, as well as the broader challenge of kidnapping and insecurity across Nigeria.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official response to either Igboho’s claims or Ibe’s call for an investigation.
