Another bridge in Lagos has reportedly been vandalised, with part of the concrete protection around an overhead bridge in the Mile 12 area excavated to expose reinforced iron rods.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over the growing vandalisation of public infrastructure in the state, coming shortly after residents alerted authorities to similar damage on the Alakija-Festac Link Bridge.

A viral video reportedly showed a suspected vandal being caught by residents while allegedly removing materials from the Mile 12 bridge. Residents have called for increased surveillance around bridges and other public infrastructure to prevent further damage.

Meanwhile, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu inspected the affected section of the Alakija-Festac Link Bridge and assured residents that preliminary assessment showed the structure remained safe for use.

Sanwo-Olu declared a manhunt for those responsible for the vandalism, describing the development as unacceptable. He also warned individuals involved in buying or selling stolen public infrastructure materials that they would be pursued.

The governor said the main structure of the Alakija-Festac Link Bridge remained intact despite the removal of some fittings, adding that there was no indication that its structural integrity had been compromised.

Meanwhile, 30 suspected vandals were arraigned before a Mobile Magistrate Court in Bolade, Oshodi, for allegedly removing iron rods from the Alakija-Festac Link Bridge, Trade Fair, Orile and Abule Ado bridges. They pleaded guilty and were sentenced to two months' imprisonment each.
