The AIDS Healthcare Foundation Nigeria has opened applications for journalists to participate in a two-month media reporting project focused on promoting ethical, accurate and solutions-focused coverage of HIV and tuberculosis.

The HIV and TB Media Reporting Project, titled “Amplify the Response,” will run from September to October 2026 and support journalists in Abuja, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Benue, Cross River, Kogi and Nasarawa states.

According to AHF Nigeria, the initiative is designed to help journalists produce human-centred and stigma-free stories that promote HIV testing, treatment uptake and public accountability in healthcare delivery.

At least seven journalists will be selected for the pilot programme, with each participant expected to produce and publish two in-depth feature or investigative stories during the two-month period.

The project will focus on issues including stigma reduction, ethical representation, rights-based reporting and the use of person-first language. Participants will also examine access to treatment, budget performance and community-led monitoring of healthcare services.

AHF said the initiative would provide journalists with the science, context and access required to improve reporting on HIV and TB, particularly in communities affected by the diseases.

The organisation noted that although Nigeria had made progress towards the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets, challenges remained in areas such as TB reduction, stigma, misinformation and funding.

Applications for the project close on August 31, 2026, while shortlisted journalists are expected to be notified on September 14. Selection will be based largely on the strength of applicants' story pitches, alongside their work samples, experience, gender diversity and editor support.
