2027 Why I Chose to Run With Obi, Kwankwaso
Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has explained his decision to run alongside Peter Obi on the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) platform in the 2027 presidential election. He said the partnership is driven by a shared vision for accountable governance, economic opportunity, security, inclusiveness and institutional reform, rather than regional, religious or personal interests.
Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has explained his decision to run alongside Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election, saying their partnership is driven by a shared vision for a better Nigeria.
Kwankwaso, who is seeking the vice-presidential ticket alongside Obi on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), made this known in a statement on Thursday as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections intensified.
He said Nigeria was at a critical point, citing rising food prices, unemployment, high business operating costs and insecurity as major challenges confronting citizens.
Kwankwaso said insecurity continued to threaten communities through terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of violence.
He stressed the need to provide adequate security for farmers to return to their farms, protect schools and enable Nigerians to live without fear.
The former governor also identified education, healthcare, infrastructure and institutional reform as areas requiring urgent government attention.
He said the country needed stronger institutions, greater transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
Explaining his decision to work with Obi, Kwankwaso said the partnership was not based on regional, religious or personal considerations.
“This is why I have chosen to work with His Excellency, Peter Obi, on the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket. Our partnership is not about region, religion or personal ambition. It is about Nigeria,” he said.
He said the proposed administration would focus on accountable governance, economic opportunities and inclusiveness.
Kwankwaso urged Nigerians, particularly young people, women, workers, farmers, entrepreneurs and professionals, to participate actively in the political process.
He also called for issue-based campaigns, urging politicians and their supporters to avoid divisive rhetoric and demand competence, accountability and results from public office holders.
The former governor described the 2027 election as an opportunity for Nigerians to determine the future direction of the country.
He urged supporters of the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket to conduct their campaigns peacefully and responsibly.
