13 Rescued as Building Collapse Injures 16 in Kano
Thirteen people were rescued after a residential building collapsed in Kano, with 16 people reportedly injured. The Fire Service said the cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
Thirteen people have been rescued after a residential building collapsed in the Dan Dishe area of Kwanar Yashi, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred early Saturday morning, with the Kano State Fire Service saying its Emergency Response Unit received a distress call at about 4:32am and immediately mobilised personnel to the scene.
According to the Fire Service, 13 victims were pulled from the rubble, with 10 rescued alive and three found unconscious. Sixteen people were reportedly injured in the incident.
Among those rescued alive were five children identified as Al-Mustapha Yusuf, 15; Khadija Yusuf, seven; Ummusalama Yusuf, 10; Madina Yusuf, six; and Hafsat Yusuf, nine.
The three unconscious victims were identified as Affan Yusuf, five; Hassana Yusuf, seven; and Ummulkursum Yusuf, nine months old. Eight other rescued victims could not immediately be identified.
The victims were handed over to Usman Ibrahim, identified as their father's brother, for further attention.
The Fire Service said the cause of the collapse had not been established, adding that an investigation was ongoing. It urged residents to observe safety precautions and report signs of structural weakness to the relevant authorities, particularly during the rainy season.
