Nigerian midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro is expected to return to action for Pisa next Sunday after spending three weeks on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.
Akinsanmiro has been out since November 7, when he picked up the injury during Pisa’s Serie A clash against Cremonese at the Arena Garibaldi.
The 21-year-old midfielder started the match but was forced off in the 68th minute.
At the time, reports suggested he was being considered for a Super Eagles call-up for the CAF World Cup playoffs, but the injury ruled him out.
He has since missed Pisa’s last two Serie A games, but new updates indicate he is close to full fitness.
Ebenezer Akinsanmiro Set To Return To Action
According to Inter Xtra, Akinsanmiro is expected to return on December 8 when Pisa face Parma.
His return is a major boost for Pisa, as the Nigerian midfielder, on loan from Inter Milan, is known for his work rate, physicality, and technical ability.
His performances this season have earned praise from Pisa coach Alberto Gilardino.
Can He Make the Super Eagles’ AFCON 2025 Squad?
There were earlier suggestions that Akinsanmiro was under consideration for the Super Eagles’ last international window before injury struck.
Now close to full fitness, he will likely be monitored closely by the national team scouts.
Nigeria’s provisional 55-man list for AFCON 2025 should already have been submitted, and Akinsanmiro is expected to be included.
With the tournament starting on December 18 and final squads due by December 11, the midfielder effectively has just one match to convince coach Eric Chelle.
Given Nigeria’s limited pool of dynamic midfielders, Akinsanmiro should be firmly on the radar if the selection is based on merit.
Despite limited minutes in the past month, his strong start to the season could work in his favour.
He is widely regarded as one of the young players capable of breaking into the Super Eagles setup soon, even if AFCON 2025 comes too early for him.
