President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally written to the Senate, requesting the screening and confirmation of Muttaqha Rabe Darma as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The letter was read on the Senate floor by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who subsequently referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative consideration, directing that it report back promptly.
The request follows the recent dismissal of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, as part of ongoing adjustments within the administration.
In a separate communication, President Tinubu also sought Senate approval for the appointment of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Akpabio referred this nomination to the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, mandating it to submit its report within one week.
Furthermore, the President requested confirmation for the reappointment of Barrister Benedict Umeno as a member of the Code of Conduct Bureau, representing the South-East, for a second term.
This request was directed to the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption, also with a one-week deadline to conclude its review and present findings.
The series of correspondences underscores the administration’s ongoing efforts to fill key positions and strengthen governance across critical institutions.
