President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of key appointments across major education agencies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Federal Polytechnic in N’yak-Shendam, and the National Library of Nigeria.
Among the appointments, Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu was named Chairman of NECO’s Governing Board, while the current Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, was retained. Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, is a seasoned academic who rose to professorship at Obafemi Awolowo University and previously chaired NBTE.
For NBTE, the President appointed Prof. Babatunde Salako as Chairman. Salako, a respected researcher, previously served as Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research from 2016 to 2024, where he led significant institutional reforms and expanded global collaborations. Additionally, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje was reappointed as Executive Secretary for a second and final five-year term.
In Plateau State, Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa was appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, succeeding Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure recently ended. Binfa holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.
Meanwhile, Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi’s tenure as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria has been renewed for a final five-year term. Since her initial appointment in 2021, she has spearheaded reforms aimed at transforming the institution into a technology-driven knowledge hub.
Her initiatives include the development of the National Repository of Nigeria, the National Virtual Library, and improved access to archival materials nationwide. She has also advanced efforts toward completing the National Library headquarters in Abuja and modernising operations across its 34 state branches.
According to the presidency, the reappointment is intended to ensure continuity in reforms, completion of ongoing projects, and implementation of the institution’s 2025–2030 strategic plan.
