President Bola Tinubu has approved the removal of Saidu Mohammed as Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), citing public interest.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President also nominated Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as Mohammed’s replacement, subject to Senate confirmation.
According to the statement, the decision aligns with provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 and is aimed at strengthening regulatory effectiveness in Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum sector under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Rabiu Umar is described as an experienced executive with over 25 years in the energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors. He holds a degree in Accounting from Bayero University and is an alumnus of Harvard Business School.
Pending Senate confirmation, the most senior official within the NMDPRA will oversee the agency in an acting capacity.
The President thanked the outgoing chief executive for his service and wished him well in his future endeavours, reiterating his commitment to strong leadership in key regulatory institutions to drive energy security, sector reforms, and economic growth.
