Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has dismissed claims by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar that a coalition-backed candidate could defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Atiku, speaking during an interview on Arise Television, had expressed confidence that a united opposition could unseat the current administration. He criticised Tinubu’s leadership, particularly on the economy, describing the government as disappointing.
Atiku, who is a presidential aspirant on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform, argued that a strong coalition would render Tinubu politically vulnerable.
However, Bwala, a former spokesperson to Atiku, rejected the claim in a post on X, insisting that the former vice-president lacks the political strength to win.
Referencing the 2023 election, Bwala stated that Atiku was defeated despite having the backing of governors, states, and established political structures.
He further argued that the proposed coalition lacks a solid base, describing it as a gathering of “stateless” aggrieved leaders with limited electoral influence. According to him, President Tinubu may not face a serious challenge from such an alliance in the next election cycle.
