Three people have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident that occurred at Polo Roundabout in Jos, Plateau State, in the early hours of Monday.
According to reports, the crash involved a truck that allegedly lost control before veering off course and causing a fatal collision. The victims were identified as the driver of the truck and two other individuals, whose identities had not been disclosed at the time of reporting.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) verified the incident through its Public Education Officer in Plateau State, Peter Longsan. He explained that the accident happened at approximately 2:30 a.m., a period often associated with reduced visibility and driver fatigue. These factors, he noted, may have contributed significantly to the unfortunate incident.
Longsan attributed the crash primarily to loss of control, a common cause of road accidents, particularly during late-night or early-morning travel. He emphasized the importance of responsible driving habits and warned motorists against reckless behavior behind the wheel.
In his statement, he urged drivers to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey. Regular vehicle maintenance, he stressed, is essential in preventing mechanical failures that could lead to accidents. He also highlighted the dangers of excessive speed, noting that adherence to speed limits can greatly reduce the likelihood of crashes.
Furthermore, the FRSC official cautioned against overloading vehicles and engaging in dangerous driving practices. He reiterated that strict compliance with traffic rules and safety regulations remains one of the most effective ways to minimize road accidents and protect lives.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with poor driving habits and inadequate vehicle maintenance. Authorities continue to appeal to all road users to prioritize safety at all times, especially during hours when alertness may be compromised.
Efforts to improve road safety awareness remain ongoing, as officials work to curb the frequency of such devastating accidents across the country.
