Residents of Logo Local Government Area in Benue State have raised alarm over a reported influx of armed herdsmen into the Gaambe–Tiev axis, sparking fears of a potential security crisis.

Locals say the movement of the herders, accompanied by large numbers of cattle, has heightened tension across affected communities, with many residents expressing uncertainty over their safety.

A community source, who spoke anonymously, described the situation as troubling. “The influx of these armed men into our communities is worrisome. People are living in fear because we do not know what could happen next,” he said.

Residents noted that the presence of armed individuals has disrupted daily life, with many farmers avoiding their farmlands due to security concerns—raising fears of possible impacts on food production.

A local farmer, Ukange Abogh, warned that the situation mirrors past developments that led to violent clashes in the state.

“We have seen this pattern before, and it often does not end well. That is why we are calling for urgent intervention,” he said, adding that the affected communities had previously enjoyed relative calm.

He urged security agencies and relevant authorities to act swiftly to prevent a breakdown of law and order and ensure the protection of lives and property.
