Nigerian music star Peter Okoye has sparked reactions online after announcing a change to the date he celebrates his birthday.
In a post shared on Monday via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, the singer made the declaration plainly, stating that November 18 will no longer be recognised as his birthday celebration date.
“I am officially changing my birthday date.
“I’m making it official. November 18th is no longer my birthday celebration date. Please note that I will not be accepting any messages or gifts on that day.
“My birthday will now be celebrated on November 30th. This is a personal decision, and I truly appreciate your understanding,” he wrote.
The singer did not provide further explanation for the decision as of the time of filing this report, leaving fans speculating about the motive behind the shift.
The announcement comes amid a long-standing rift between Mr P and his twin brother, Paul Okoye, which has continued to draw public attention.
Both artists rose to fame as members of the now-defunct music duo P-Square, which dominated the African music scene throughout the 2000s and early 2010s with multiple hit songs and international recognition.
However, tensions within the group became public around 2015, largely tied to management disputes involving their elder brother, Jude Okoye, who managed their business affairs at the time. Disagreements over royalties, creative control, and family involvement eventually led to the group’s split.
While both brothers have pursued solo careers since then, their relationship has remained strained, with occasional public exchanges keeping the issue in the spotlight.
