President Bola Tinubu has become the first aspirant to obtain a presidential nomination form from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the ruling party officially commenced the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 general elections.
The form was picked up on Tuesday by James Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, who acted on behalf of the president. Faleke completed the purchase within hours of the process opening, signaling an early move by Tinubu’s camp in the race for the party’s presidential ticket.
To secure the form, Faleke paid the required ₦100 million fee, which covers both the expression of interest and nomination forms. The high cost set by the APC has already sparked debate among political observers and civil society groups, with concerns raised about its potential impact on inclusiveness and equal participation in the democratic process.
The form was formally presented to Faleke at the APC national secretariat by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu. The brief handover marked the official entry of Tinubu into the party’s 2027 presidential race, even as internal consultations and alignments continue within the ruling party.
Tinubu’s early acquisition of the form underscores his strong position within the APC and may shape the dynamics of the contest, particularly as other potential aspirants weigh their options. Analysts suggest that being the first to obtain the form could provide a psychological and strategic advantage, reinforcing his incumbency and influence within the party structure.
As of the time of this report, no other aspirant had picked up the APC presidential nomination form. However, more contenders are expected to join the race in the coming weeks as the party’s electoral timetable progresses and political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general election.
