The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the Federal Government over reports that only about 7 per cent of the Nigerian Army’s 2025 budget for security equipment has been released, describing the situation as alarming and detrimental to national security operations.
The party said the development reflects a widening gap between approved funding and actual disbursement, warning that it is weakening military capacity on the frontlines and exposing communities to greater insecurity.
The position was contained in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who expressed concern over what the party described as inadequate release of funds meant for critical security operations.
According to the ADC, out of N336.76 billion approved for security equipment in 2025, only N16.71 billion has reportedly been released, with no allocation yet for essential logistics such as transport, aircraft fuel, and military barracks.
The party warned that the shortfall could limit operational effectiveness, reduce mobility, and slow response time to security threats across the country.
It also linked the funding gap to worsening insecurity, citing recent mass abductions in parts of the country, including reported incidents in Borno State involving women and children.
The ADC further claimed that ransom demands by armed groups have increased significantly, arguing that weakened funding for security agencies emboldens criminal elements.
It urged the Federal Government to urgently address the funding gaps to strengthen security operations and improve the protection of lives and property nationwide.
